This year Melina grew the best carrots that this family has grown, ever. She has wanted to grow carrots for the last couple years and we have put her off, telling her stories of how terrible our carrots have been in the past. This year we gave in and made an area for carrots and as happens in movies she has succeeded and taught us adults a thing or two.
We also grew the best potatoes that we have ever grown. Last year they never made it past the size of a super ball, but this year they are potato sized! The zucchini that we planted late is now starting to kick into high gear and trying to produce more zucchini than can be eaten. Its going to have a tough time doing that in our garden!
There is a certain satisfaction and pleasure that comes when you can enjoy the success from your hard work and effort. I am convinced that the satisfaction and pleasure goes straight to your taste buds and can have effect on your meal when it is a home grown and home cooked meal. We had a fully (see disclaimer) home grown and home cooked meal this week! Some of us had steak and some had pork chops and we all had red potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. The steak and pork chops were harvested this last spring and the vegetables were picked straight from the garden. It was nothing fancy, but it was a wonderful meal. Every one in the family agreed that this is how food was meant to be.
Disclaimer: The salt, pepper and other spices used in the actual home cooking were not home grown.
